A Visit to CERN

CERN is universally recognized as the European Nuclear Research Center. It is the highest honor to do research there for the world’s astrophysicists. With great pleasure, I attended a visit to CERN.

A Professor working there guided my visit. First he introduced me the history of CERN. It was founded in 1952 by scientists from 11 European countries. Nowadays, there are 20 countries which are members of CERN and there are scientists from over 80 countries. In 1973, Gargamelle, who was a scientist of CERN, won the Nobel Prize for the found of neutral current. Since then, more and more scientists won the Nobel Prize. It soon became the world largest nuclear research center.

Then the professor led us to see the famous Large Hadrons Collider. It was built in 2005.   It is the world’s biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. The Collider lay underground and its length is 27 kilometers. Recently, scientists use this to simulate the circumstances when the Universe was formed by colliding 2 particles. It will split out matters and antimatters. People are trying to collect the matters and figure out the fact during the Universe was formed.

At last, we watched a movie about the history of The Universe from its beginning to the latest development. It gives us a theory of how the Universe was formed: the big bang theory.

I finished my visit happily and with full of knowledge.
